MARRYAM MOMA ATLANTA, GA
Marryam Moma is a Tanzanian-Nigerian collage artist known for her captivating and thought-provoking works that explore Black excellence and the intricate histories of the individuals she portrays. With a background in architecture, Moma brings a unique perspective to her art, blending textures, luxurious materials, and vibrant colors to illustrate the multi-layered experiences of Black life.
Her latest opus, ‘ICONoclasts’, showcases her masterful attention to detail and her ability to create multidimensional imagery that goes beyond the confines of traditional mediums. Moma skillfully weaves floral elements, locations, and key nuances specific to each individual, encouraging viewers to connect the dots and delve deeper into the contributions of these remarkable figures.
Through her art, Moma aims to educate, elevate, and engage Black communities by shedding light on the socio-cultural influence of her subjects. Moma's quest is to illustrate Black stories and joy, while fostering inclusivity in a society often marked by division. By celebrating Black excellence and embracing the power of forgiveness, change, and evolution, she creates art that transcends boundaries and invites viewers to celebrate the rich tapestry of humanity.
Currently, Moma's exhibition, ICONoclasts, can be experienced at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Conference Center from July 28 to September 8, 2023. It is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty and complexity of Moma's creations and to reflect on the resilience and contributions of Black individuals throughout history.
HOBO INK ATLANTA, GA
Hobo Ink, a 41-year-old contemporary artist from Montgomery, Alabama, now residing in Atlanta, is renowned for his vibrant and meaningful contributions to the art world. With a rich background spanning over 20 years as a tattoo artist and 7 years as a contemporary painter, he is represented by Graphite House and is celebrated for his unique Black Storytelling through art.
His work has garnered the attention of collectors such as T.I. Harris and Lil Yachty, and he has been a part of significant events like the first all-black artist installation at Starbucks during Atlanta Art Week 2023.
Hobo Ink's growing influence in the contemporary art scene is further underscored by his upcoming feature at HFAS16 (Harlem Fine Arts Show 2024) alongside notable artists like Marryam Moma and Ruby Chavez, set to be held at The Glasshouse in New York. This engagement highlights his status as an influential and respected contemporary artist.
